About videotranscript.org

videotranscript.org is a free tool that turns video and audio into an editable, timestamped transcript. It's built and run by an independent developer who wanted a transcript tool that is fast, free to try and respects privacy.

How it works

When you choose a file, your browser extracts the sound track and prepares it for speech recognition. Only that audio is sent to our transcription service, which uses Whisper — OpenAI's open-source speech recognition model — and returns the text with timestamps. The video itself never leaves your device, and we don't store your files or transcripts.

What's next

Link import for YouTube, Instagram and TikTok, longer files, speaker labels, AI summaries and translation are on the roadmap.
